Well it is all but over thanks for some great pictures been an interesting journey may inspire others to make the trip so many countries with diverse people sad about the begging I guess its about the rich getting more the others nothing that’s life see you back in this wonderful city of Adelaide.

Got to hand it to the boy Judy if their is a way like with most things Greg will find it, hand outs easy to just put your hand out and hope I guess you can say we have enough in this country on some form of hand out sorry your last port of call did not turn out all that good but you cant win them all don’t forget to close with a nice piece of music on your last post.

Ron, people here don’t have to beg – they do it because tourists and visitors have rewarded that behaviour in the past by giving them money, and giving lollies to kids. No one here would starve – villages take care of their own. It seems to be almost a knee-jerk reaction to seeing a tourist, but I guess that happens in lots of other places as well.
Yes, we thought there wouldn’t be any internet access ere, but trust Mr Adventure to sniff it out!

You might be right about the trees, their may have been more in the past.However it is a subalpine environment, lots of areas above 3000m
We saw women collecting cow dune for fuel.

Sorry I thought you where going to lose internet after you passed into Lesotho what a tree less place or have they all been burnt up all the trees you would have to think that if snow falls you would think that trees should grow sad when people have to BEG you have to do what your conscience dictates treble to see even so .

I’ll always give people food if they ask, especially kids. Not money though, that should be in exchange for a service or an item. Just like everywere else. xx

The ‘snow’ was a very thin layer – it looked very patchy when we saw it from above.
I love KIVA – have given over 40 loans, mostly to women wanting to run their own small business, or buy supplies for farming. I looked at loans for Namibia a while ago, but it was mostly people wanting to sell potatoes at markets … and there are already plenty of people doing that. Will be interesting to see who wants what in Lesotho. And I give to a local ADL womens’ shelter that my mum use to do voluntary work at – they have good programs for education and job skills. xx

Such a first world dilemma , but I agree with you wholeheartedly . We don’t want to reinforce begging . In India parents actually amputate children’s limbs to get sympathy from tourists . When I was younger I used to give them all money . Now , only buskers , or I buy something I don’t want , because they’re working and trying to make a future for themselves . That’s why Kiva and others like them are so fabulous .
Give a person a fish ……..etc .
I had to look twice at that photo , as I couldn’t believe it was snow ! xx

Hi Judy and Greg,
Must be difficult in choosing who to give and who to not give too. We don’t see much of that here although apparently Southend have lots of homeless people . There was a foreign lady outside our Marks and Spencer this morning selling “Big Issues” but she possible earns more than I get pension So I pasted by feeling a little guilty as I have so much to be thankful for .
